Akamai is looking for a Senior Release Engineer to improve our software product development efforts and ultimately the success of the company. The ideal candidate must have a proven track record in software configuration management and the desire to improve existing processes. Attention to detail is extremely important for this position. This team-based position will work with developers, quality assurance, lab engineering, and IT team members to maintain and enhance our existing development processes.

As a Senior Release Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Provide software configuration management for our development and production software releases.

  • Rework/maintain/optimize existing configuration management processes.

  • Implement automated solutions via PERL, Ruby, HTML, C, Python or similar languages/tools.

  • Provide Perforce application administration (Perforce performance monitoring, purge and clean data, manage permissions, add/delete users).

  • Troubleshoot and fix compilation or build script issues.

  • Support 800 end users and document related procedures.

  • Design and develop build and release tools to increase development productivity.

Our software underpins the Security BU and its portfolio of solutions that constitute Akamai’s Security Products. These include security monitoring, mitigating and reporting applications. These provide distributed protection from both DDoS and application specific web attacks with on-demand scalability.

Required Education and Experience

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • 2 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or

  • Relevant experience and a Master’s degree or PhD or

  • Equivalent professional experience

Required Skills

  • 2 year experience in software configuration and release management.

  • 2 years experience with one of more of the following: Perl, make, shell scripting or other scripting languages.

  • 2 years experience using and administrating Perforce source code management tools or other source code management systems (e.g. CVS, Clearcase, subversion, git, Accurev).

  • 2 years experience with Docker or similar containerization

Desired Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Experience in managing multiple parallel projects, branching and merging.

  • Experience with multi-platform build environments (UNIX and NT but skewed towards linux).

  • Broad understanding of the programming structure (make files, headers, code) and compilation process (compile, link).
