About the Job

Akamai is looking for a lawyer with demonstrated data protection abilities to be a key business partner for highly motivated and technology savvy clients. The successful candidate will be expected to handle a wide variety of global commercial transactions (both buy and sell side), with a primary focus on data protection agreements (DPAs) as required by the GDPR. The role will include handling, prioritizing, and following through on numerous projects simultaneously. This will provide excellent opportunities to learn the many aspects of Akamai’s business, as well as the challenges associated with working on diverse matters with other highly motivated, top-performing professionals, at a fun, dynamic and fast paced company.

About the Team

Akamai Legal is a highly-experienced global team of lawyers and other legal professionals dedicated to helping drive Akamai’s next phase of growth. We embrace the challenge of working at the intersection of rapid innovation and constantly evolving laws and welcome the opportunity to draw on our collective legal expertise to provide creative solutions to business problems. The Legal team currently consists of approximately 50 professionals located in the U.S., Germany, Poland, Singapore, China and Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, comment on and negotiate DPAs and other commercial transactional documents with Akamai’s global customers, suppliers and partners.

  • Advising on legal and regulatory risk associated with sales, networks, data protection, and service offering and distribution.

  • Assure conformity and consistency in application of Akamai legal and business policies and practices.

  • Participate in efforts to enhance the legal department’s overall performance.

  • Handle other tasks that arise from time to time and require the attention of an Akamai attorney.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master of Law degree

  • Minimum of 3 years of legal support or similar experience in a law firm or in-house, ideally in the telecommunication, Internet or IT field

  • Strong verbal and written contract negotiation skills in English.

  • Contract drafting and negotiation skills, including DPAs and other commercial transactional documents.

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation and contract drafting skills in a variety of technology/licensing agreements including software, managed services and multi-tier channel reseller models.

  • Working knowledge of European commercial contract law, competition law, software licensing, privacy and data protection and intellectual property rights.

  • Astute commercial awareness, robust time and project management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a clear and concise drafting style.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work independently, to multi-task and provide follow-through on projects.

  • Flexibility to work with colleagues and internal clients located in diverse regions within EMEA and other time zones.

  • Upbeat temperament, dynamic personality and highly team-oriented approach to work.

  • Enjoy working for a very fast paced team.

  • Good sense of humor.
