About the Job
The System Operations team manages Akamai’s production environment and shares responsibility for keeping it fast, secure and reliable. This role requires in-depth knowledge of proprietary services in addition to a big picture understanding of the entire infrastructure. The Systems Operations Engineer directly supports the core infrastructure services at Akamai.

About the Team


The System Operations team works within the Global Performance and Operations organization along with the company’s top developers to deploy and support 200,000+
servers across the globe. System Operations ensures that Akamai’s platform remains reliable and maintainable in a fast paced, evolving environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, enforce, and implement processes that provide internal Akamai users access to core infrastructure. 


  • Work through detail-oriented procedures to handle change requests to Akamai’s deployed network. 


  • Collaborate with our global System Operations team to maintain consistent workflows across the group. 


  • Serve as escalation point for internal Akamai users on a broad range of issues where System Operations is responsible for subject matter expertise and implementation. 


  • Promote operational best practices to maintain the integrity of the Akamai network. 
Qualifications: 
Basic Qualifications 


  • Sufficient linux knowledge/experience 


  • Strong background troubleshooting complex issues 


  • Solid understanding of modern Internet protocols 


  • The ability to drive issues to resolution 


  • Strong communication skills to foster rapport with all colleagues 


  • Adept at working in both a team environment and independently on some issues 


  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience


Desired Qualifications 


  • Proficient in at least one of: perl, python, SQL, shell

  • Prior operations experience (2 or more years) in public-facing infrastructures 


  • Experience in working on massively distributed networks 


  • Strong desire to learn and increase knowledge set
