We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Marketing Manager to lead Federal and SLED marketing for Akamai’s Web Division. This role can be remote from any location in US and work from Home Office or an Akamai Office if available. The first 90 days will require travel to the Reston VA office 3-4 days per week and then 3 times per month or as needed.

About the Role

You will serve as the “go to” marketing contact for sales and channel partners, and you will be responsible for building, managing, analyzing and refining the ongoing marketing plan for Federal, State and Local Government, and Education markets. You will leverage industry trends and product offerings, along with internal and third-party resources, to help sales acquire new customers and identify upsell and cross sell opportunities with existing customers.

About the Team

The Americas Web Division is responsible for Akamai’s web performance and cloud security products. Our marketing charter is to develop plans and execute programs that drive leads for maximum impact on sales pipeline and revenue growth.

The Marketing Manager – Federal/SLED role handles end-to-end lead generation campaign management across the entire marketing mix for the assigned markets including content syndication, digital marketing, social media, webinars, events and sponsorships, and email/direct mail.

Responsibilities

  • Create, oversee and execute an integrated go-to-market plan to include online and offline lead generation and brand awareness campaigns tailored for Federal and SLED audiences.

  • Manage and report on assigned marketing budget, leads generated, and program ROI (monthly/quarterly).

  • Host cadence calls with Sales Leadership, Channel team and key Partners to discuss ongoing marketing programs and ensure alignment with sales priorities and overall business goals.

  • Adapt and leverage corporate marketing content and campaigns, using your government expertise, internal teams, and third-party resources.

  • Research, select and manage events, including planning and logistics execution.

  • Plan and execute annual Akamai-led Government Forum.

  • Collaborate with Corporate PR for campaign alignment and ongoing awareness in Federal and SLED markets.

Key Skills

  • Market/Industry knowledge: Understands Federal/SLED markets, buying behavior, channel/third party implications, key vendors, and how to work with partners

  • Program Management: Build, execute, and measure marketing programs in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Promotional Writing: Author and edit promotional content, such as email/web copy, booth property messaging/bullets, and presentation session abstracts.

  • Content Writing: Work with resources to adapt commercial content for data sheets, solutions briefs, white papers, and presentations to resonate with Federal/SLED audiences

  • Budget Management: Solid understanding of business management and operations processes, such as requesting and tracking POs and invoices.

  • Strategic thinker and self-starter, with appropriate attention to details.

  • Experience with and preference for fast-paced work environments, managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications Required

  • BA/BS required and minimum of 6 years marketing to Federal/SLED audiences OR Minimum of 8 years overall marketing experience with Advanced Degree.

  • Experience marketing technology solutions.

  • Experience working with channel partners.

  • Strong communications/presentation skills (written and verbal).

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with senior management.

  • Strong MS Office skills; experienced with Salesforce, Marketo, etc.

Additional desired experience (not required)

  • Experience in Account-based / Targeted Accounts Marketing.

  • Experience in Enterprise marketing.

  • Experience in rest-of-world marketing.
