Akamai is looking for a technical professional to join the Custom Government SysOps team at our Reston, VA facility that serves our growing Public Sector customer base. The ideal candidate has a wide base of technical knowledge and experience working in fast-paced development and operational environments with a strong focus on Linux administration, full-stack software development and integration. Candidates that will excel in this position are life-long learners who demonstrate a high degree of motivation, time management skill and intellectual curiosity. This position will be an excellent opportunity for the above average system or network administrator with demonstrable application development skill who is looking to transition to a primarily developer role. The position will report to the Team Lead of Custom Government SysOps.
Work with Platform Operations to learn their processes, procedures, workflows and tooling.
Work with Custom Engineering to maintain and release Linux software components that will operate on the production network.
Develop and maintain new and existing command-line and web-based tools to improve Platform Operations’ workflows.
Build and maintain both development and production Linux environments for the SysOps team’s software products.
Develop and maintain documentation and procedures for these software products.
About the Team
The Custom Government SysOps team supports the Platform Operations group who manage, monitor, and maintain Akamai’s globally deployed servers and network infrastructure. The team develops and supports Linux software that the Platform Operations group deploys and maintains on the production network. The team is also involved in creating specialty tools and web-based applications for Operations. These efforts contribute to the efficient and stable operation of our infrastructure and play a crucial role in maintaining the high availability and unparalleled performance of our cloud services platform.
Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent or
6 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or
3 years of relevant experience and a PhD
2+ years of network operations experience.
2+ years experience maintaining Linux/Unix systems.
2+ years experience in full-stack application development/integration.
2+ years in Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails and/or PHP.
Knowledge of full stack web application development including front-end and back-end engineering, deployment, and operation.
Knowledge of current industry practices including continuous integration/delivery, collaborative development, revision control, automation and containerization technologies.
Strong interpersonal, communication and documentation skills.
Experience deploying and operating complex Linux web application environments.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent timeliness and dependability.
Knowledge of DNS a plus.
Knowledge of databases/SQL a plus.
Knowledge of SSL, LDAP, HTTPS or similar a plus.
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to be cleared at a DoD Top Secret level.
Is a Security Clearance Required: Yes – To be eligible for consideration for this position, a current Top Secret clearance is required. Candidates with a current Secret Clearance who may be eligible for Top Secret Clearance are also suitable for consideration. If yes, applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation & must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
