The Systems Quality Assurance team is responsible for the end-to-end verification and qualification of Akamai’s services.

About the Job

As a Systems Quality Assurance Engineer located out of our Santa Clara office, you will be working with teams responsible for the system-wide validation and verification of our Media Content Delivery Service offerings which provide enterprises a robust and scalable e-business infrastructure to cost-effectively serve their global customer base. Your job includes developing system level test plans, creating and enhancing automated system tests written in Perl/Python, executing automated and manual tests to ensure release quality, analyzing problems and getting to the root cause, and assisting other QA Engineers on a release-by-release basis in testing new features and functionality. You will work on challenging software automation and verification with a mission to release high quality application/system software that is highly resilient and optimally performing on very large distributed networks. You will participate in Agile Sprints and work on the sprint deliverables.

Responsibilities

* Perform manual and automated functional tests as well as large-scale system tests

* Work closely with developers and QA Engineers to design test criteria, test strategy, develop test plans and automation

* Develop automated tests to replicate real-world scenarios that plug into a regression test harness

* Review bug descriptions, functional requirements, and design documents

* Work in parallel on more than one QA project at a time

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: 5 years of experience with Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience OR 3 years with Masters degree Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • 3 years experience in Server side QA/Test Engineering

  • 3 years experience developing Perl scripts OR Python scripts OR shell scripts and test automation

  • 3 years with contemporary QA/test principles, methodologies, and techniques in regards to black/white box testing and test automation

  • 3 years working experience of UNIX/Linux

  • 2 years of HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • MS/M Computer Science degree preferred

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Good understanding of Agile Methodology.

  • Highly driven, positive attitude, team player, self learning, self motivating and flexibility are some of the attributes needed for this position

  • Domain knowledge in the area of Web server (apache/IIS), proxy server and caching technology strongly desired

  • Familiarity with media streaming technologies such as Flash/RTMP/HDS, HLS/HTTP Streaming, Silverlight/Smooth Streaming, encoding technologies(H.264/AAC, VC1, VP6), streaming codecs and containers is strongly desired.

  • Experience in content creation using custom/stock encoders is a plus.

  • Experience with live/ondemand stream transcoding is a plus.
