About the Job

Technical Project Managers (TPMs) are part of the Akamai Professional Services team and work directly with Akamai's clients to deliver Akamai solutions and Technical Consultation by effectively managing various Professional Services projects.

The function’s goal of this post is to maximize customer satisfaction, retention, and growth throughout the relationship. In this role, TPM will use his/her background in technical pre-sales, program management and service delivery to help evolve our customer’s cloud strategies, moving them from concept to implementation that best leverages both the customer’s and Akamai’s strengths. TPM will help to drive business value, develop strong customer relationships, along with a deep understanding of the customer’s business models.

TPMs lead and manage the integration of customers’ web sites with the Akamai network and products. They are involved in some part of the pre-sales cycle (solution gating, Professional Services Quotation, and Scope of Work documentation) through implementation, customer sign-off, ongoing services, and technical consultation.

This position requires a strong technical background, excellent client and project management skills, proven ability to do hands on technical work when needed, and ability to lead technical projects and technical teams. Successful candidates must be action oriented, capable of independently solving complex technical problems and able to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and business audiences.

Akamai’s Professional Services team calls upon its Internet expertise to architect the optimal solution for the unique business and technical requirements of our customers. Through its proven methodologies and processes, this highly experienced team of consultants has implemented effective solutions for over 3,000 Akamai customers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the central point of contact for the customer, expand client relationships, oversee integrated account team execution, and ensure we meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Work independently or lead small extended technical teams with Akamai customers to evaluate their web architecture and deliver the appropriate integration solution. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating the customer's’ content management and publishing processes, web application architecture, security requirements, DNS configurations, and provide detailed documentation for a custom solution that satisfies the customer's’ business and technical requirements.

  • Work closely with customers and pre-sales teams to manage and implement customer trials, propose technically feasible solutions and set accurate expectations on effort and timelines for integration. Establish success criteria and act as the single point of contact for the customer for all technical issues and project deliverables.

  • Create and manage to proposals, Statements of Work and detailed project plans for customer integrations including timelines and effort estimates.

  • Act as an escalation contact for customers for technical issues and will work closely with Support team, management, and applicable team members to escalate issues that cannot be resolved in a reasonable amount of time.

  • Responsible for coordinating incident reviews and post mortems, communicates resulting action and provides constructive feedback to management team for process improvement.

  • Drive the troubleshooting activities and engage other functions as required.

  • Drive internal and external communication to ensure on-going updates on the resolution process.

  • Work closely with Account Management, Sales professionals, engineering, product development and Technical Support to resolve issues that arise during customer trials or integrations.

  • Identify new product features and additional sales opportunities during trials and integrations and communication of the same to product development and sales teams.

  • Track and document status and time spent on customer integrations.

  • Participate in internal projects that help scale the group, implement best practices, and improving our methodology and quality of integrations.

  • Review quality of customer integrations.

  • Travel to supported customer’s offices when necessary.

  • Primary region of coverage is Shenzhen and other Southern China regions, occasionally other China region as well.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT/Telecommunication/Computer Science/Engineering or relevant technical field experience.

  • Minimum of 8 years of related professional work experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical consulting services, project management experience and/or other customer facing role consulting on, delivering technical products or services in in at least one of the following areas:

  • Large scale web site/application development & operation

  • Cloud computing

  • Content Delivery Network(CDN) and/or Application Delivery Network(ADN)

  • Media streaming technologies

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Internet technologies, standards and protocols, including DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, Web architecture and design.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to disseminate information in a clear and correct manner to both business and technical audiences, from the user to the executive level.

  • Experience in a customer facing role requiring a high level of individual responsibility, sound business judgment and large enterprise account management, where an aptitude for improving customer satisfaction was successfully demonstrated.

  • Strong relationship building skills, can positively influence the actions of others and works as a team player.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, commitments and projects. Ability to self-manage and prioritize workload.

  • Must have the ability to travel up to 50%.

  • Must be fluent in Mandarin and English.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master Degree Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline is a plus.

  • Any of PMP, CCIE, CISSP, or equivalent IT industry expert certification a plus.

  • Enthusiastic, action oriented, capable of independently solving complex technical problems and able to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and business audiences.

  • Possess excellent technical aptitude and a desire to learn constantly.

  • Demonstrated success developing client relationships.

  • Experience with enterprise and data center networks, system design and operation, including infrastructure design and build out, caching proxies, routing, switching and load balancing.

  • Implementation experience with web delivery technologies or mobile app that works based on HTTP and other Internet protocols.

  • General exposure to security technologies, processes, and concepts such as PKI, SSL, firewalls, NIST 800-53, FIPS-140-2, Authentication & Authorization, Client Certificates, OCSP, etc. a plus.

  • Experience in one or more web development languages, methodologies, and/or architectures.

  • Experience delivering streaming technologies (Windows Media/Silverlight, Adobe Flash, Apple HLS, MPEG-DASH) in the enterprise or B2C, including encoding, server technologies, client and server playlists/metafiles, custom media player creation, DRM a plus.

  • Experience in IP based Internet in L3, L4 & L7. Experience in Load Balancing, L4/L7 switching, WAF, IPS/IDS, or relevant area.

  • Experience with the impacts of Content Delivery and Distributed Computing within business and technical organizations.

  • Detailed knowledge of Internet technologies and considered a subject matter expert in any relevant internet topic.
